How to Protect Your Kids When Your not Home

Parents will do everything to keep their kids safe by keeping a watchful eye on them, but how do you do it when you need to be away from them? There are many dangers to a child in this world that is why we have made a list of tips to help parents keep their youngsters safe even in their absence.

  1. Have an adult in the house

Handing your kids off in the care of another adult may drive you insane in guilt but it is the best you can do when you need to be away. It is important to have a responsible and trust-worthy adult who can keep an eye on the kids and oversee their wellbeing.

The best adult to choose would be a close relative whom the kids can be comfortable to but if that is not available, you can hire a nanny. Make sure to find someone you and your kids can be comfortable to, someone who is transparent about his/her personal and professional background and someone you can trust.

  1. Rig the house with cameras

Installing cameras all over the house may seem over the top for others but wouldn’t you want to be able to monitor your kids while you are away? With the various connectivity options that come with cameras today, you can simply check on the kids with a few clicks and a swipe.

You should not underestimate the camera’s recording function either. If there is anything that endangers your child (whether it be an abusive nanny or a break in), you will have it on tape.

  1. Get to know your neighbours

And let them get to know your kids. If you’ve heard of the saying “it takes a village to raise a kid” then you know well how important it is to have other people help you take care of your kids.

Think of it as having baby sitters all around the neighbourhood, there will always be someone looking out for your kids wherever they may be (around the neighbourhood, of course!).

  1. Double-up on home security

Making sure your home is safe for your loved ones should be top priority. It is important to ensure that your home is wired with alarms to notify everyone if any sorts of danger arise. Make sure these features are up and working, especially when you need to be away.

If you plan to install advanced locks, teach your kids how to use them. This is to avoid getting them locked in when an emergency strikes.

  1. Teach them how they can keep themselves safe

It is important for kids to know how to stay away from any sort of danger. Teaching them not to open doors for strangers or to never step out without letting an adult know would train them to become vigilant of their surroundings and of others.
