Dealing with Injury on a Camping Trip

Camping is one of the greatest Canadian pastimes.  Getting out into the woods with friends and experiencing the incredible resource that is this country’s natural wonders.  Ontario alone has over seven million hectares of land across more than six hundred provincial parks and conservation reserves that receive more than nine million visitors each year.  Add in the numerous private campgrounds littered throughout the province and you have a lot of space for even the most ardent campers.

Camping is meant to be fun and it usually is but occasionally even the most careful camper can run afoul of a poorly maintained or secured area and find themselves injured in some way.  If you find yourself in that position seek medical attention immediately, and once those immediate concerns have been taken care of, consider your rights to fair recompense for your pain.

Private Campgrounds and Tours

Private campgrounds fall under much the same law as most private property.  If you are not trespassing but are in fact an invitee or a customer you are entitled to receive compensation for any injuries that resulted from an unsafe environment caused by the owner’s negligence or incompetence.  Tours too fall under the same legal liability though it may be a tour company’s fault as well as the location in which the injury occurred, depending on circumstances.

Public Campgrounds

Some may believe that when injured in a provincial park there is no recourse available – that the government is protected from any form of legal redress.  Let’s dispel that notion right now: There is no legislation in Ontario that grants immunity from liability to the government for the health and safety of campers on provincially controlled sites.  The government of Ontario CAN be held responsible for not maintaining a reasonable standard of maintenance and safety for those who have suffered significant harm.

Recovering from an injury takes time and can disrupt your life.  If you were injured on a camping trip, regardless of the campsite’s private or public status, you are entitled to seek compensation and hire a personal injury lawyer with a terrific track record.  Take action and call Conte & Associates at 1-877-614-0008.
